About the Author
STEPHEN KING was born in Portland, Maine in 1947. Many of his works have been adapted for the screen including Carrie, The Dead Zone, The Shining, Christine, Salem's Lot, Firestarter, Cujo, Pet Sematary (for which King wrote the screenplay and had a bit part as a minister), and Misery, as well as several others. Better then a sleeping pill

I have speakers in my pillow. I turn on my mini stereo and listen to one of the CD's. Before I know it I'm sound asleep but the next morning I put the CD in my portable CD player listen to what I missed as I do my work around the house. 6 stars!

This product is great. Used it on a roadtrip to Florida. John Glover is Smallville's, Lex Luther's Father. Good reader. After the first few stories he gets into the stories more and they add background sounds into a few of them. I like that. It adds to the story. I recommend this product.

Instant Classic!

"Herman the Cat Goes to Outerspace" is destined to become a classic, like "Good Night Moon," "Madeline," or anything by Shakespeare. My children loved this book.

The graphic illustrator, Haley Wolfe, does an amazing job with the art work. Whether it is the expression on Herman's face, the retro-fun color palette, or the intricate details in the background of each scene, she hits it out of the park every time.

The story line is about Herman, a very industrious cat who goes about building his own spaceship. The plot focuses on hard work, perseverance, and friendship. Herman is able to overcome obstacles and achieve his dreams; he is a true role model for children.

The book will appeal to boys or girls from the age range of 3-10 years old. Probably it is best for kindergarten all the way through third grade or so. There are a few more complex vocabulary words thrown in here or there.

Bottom line: buy this book! Makes a great gift, too.

Herman The Cat Goes To Outerspace is a fun little jaunt into the days of my childhood. Herman and his animal buddies are imaginatively drawn and there's clearly a lot of loving detail put into each aspect of the story. If you've ever wanted to see a determined cat join the race for space, a giraffe play hopscotch, or the most amazingly talented snake of all time then Herman The Cat Goes To Outerspace is the book for you.

Excellent Unique Children's Book

Both my kids (5 yr boy and 3 yr old girl) loved this book upon my first reading it to them. They immediately wanted me to read it again once I was done. And the next morning when I got out of the shower to head to work I found my 5 yr old laying on the couch looking through it (usually he's still asleep). It has a great story involving animals and space ships (what kid doesn't love those?), really fun artwork, a great message about friendship and hard work, and it doesn't unnecessarily dumb itself down just because its a children's book which is very refreshing. Highly recommend!

Wow, what a book,...about the author. This whole book is a self-propaganda of how great he is.
No kidding in a few chapters he actually acknowledges how much he talks about himself and says,
Here is someone else that feels the same way about me. In other words,.. “Me, me, me, me, me….

About the Author
Arogyaswami Paulraj received his PhD from the Indian Institute of Technology and is a Professor of Electrical Engineering at Stanford University. He is the author of over 250 research papers and holds eight patents. He has held several positions in industry, including Chief Technology Officer of Iospan Wireless Inc, and he is a Fellow of the IEEE and a member of the Indian National Academy of Engineering. He is also the recipient of the 2014 Marconi Prize.

Rohit Nabar is a Research Assistant in the Smart Antennas Research Group in the Electrical Engineering Department at Stanford University.

Excellent introduction to the field!

As a PhD student in this field wanting to get a good overview of space-time wireless communication, this book has proven invaluable. It places all the diverse research work and math in space-time comm in perspective using lots of motivation, intuition and nice figures, and identifies the important contributions to this field. For beginners, would highly recommend reading this to spending a much larger amount of time reading the increasing plethora of research papers. Overall, a great book for researchers to have on their shelves.

A good advertisement for their own research

I see this book as a collection of some of the works of the author and his research group. Buy it only if you are planning to join their smart antenna research group.
If u want to learn about MIMO and space-time coding systems, then this book may not be good.....no new or relevant material was conveyed in the first 100 or so pages..some times annoying..everywhere referring to their own papers and providing their own simulation results...
The book by vucetic is somewhat better than this, but also has some of the above mentioned drawbacks.... too much of material from their own papers, instead of explaining standard techniques, somewhat biased..
To learn about MIMO and spacetime, in my opinion as of now there is no good book and actually u dont need one...Just start with the papers by taletar (his course notes are great and available on the web) , foschini, alamouti, tarokh, calderbank, seshadri etal, u should be fine...this book by paulraj and also the one by vucetic, can be compactly replaced by taletars course notes and some of the above mentioned papers..Final advice: dont buy, check it out from library if possible....I gave one star for the reasonable price and for the attempt

Infomercial Quality, Brainless Copy And Paste Job!

This text does not deserve a long review. Here are my main reasons:

(1) The content is a result of badly organized copy and paste process from the first author's research group with major errors.
(2) Even the author diversity visible in various chapters does not add value, I believe the second and third authors are Paulraj drones. There is not one good chapter that I can recommend someone to read.
(3) Branka Vucetic et.al.'s book is a much better organized one although it suffers from the cut and paste process.

Recommendation: AVOID! Do not buy this self referencing piece of crap, and give the trees a chance to grow.

There are many good tutorial and seminal articles on space-time wireless communications and coding. This book does not even do a good job on these references. [...]

She was alone in the darkness, and the tide had turned. When, at the end of her adventure, she is safe with her mother again on top of the ice, she says, "that was my very last first time for walking alone on the bottom of the sea."

Kindergarten-Grade 3 Eva Padlyat had often walked on the bottom of the sea with her mother. This extraordinary-sounding feat is routine for the Inuits of Northern Canada, who lower themselves through the thick winter ice at low tide to search for mussels on the ocean floor. It is now time for Eva's first trip under the ice alone. She and her mother pull their sleds across the snow until they find a place to chisel a hole; then Eva carefully lowers herself into the darkness. Lighting a candle, she begins to look for mussels; she then goes exploring. When she hears the tide coming in and drops her candle, she feels panicky, but she soon finds her matches and another candle to light her way back to the ice hole. On the surface of the ice once again, Eva sums up her adventure as her "very last first time" for walking alone on the ocean floor. This look at Eskimo life today combines the ancient custom of collecting mussels with modern features such as airplanes and snowmobiles. The story is well-developed, with just the right amount of suspense. The watercolor illustrations are somewhat uneven in quality; the colors in the land scenes are rather garish, and some figures are awkwardly proportioned. The eerie shades of the ocean floor are quite effective, however, and the strange seascapes lend an air of unreality. Very Last First Time is an intriguing view of a little-known way of life. A Fascinating Story that I found through Five In a Row

My children (1st & 2nd grade) really love this book. The premise had them leaping off the bed in amazement - "She goes under the SEA??? The ice is over her HEAD???? She goes by HERSELF????"

Every detail was interesting to them - the tools used to hack under the ice, the mother letting her child go alone, the small Inuit homes, Eva living in a land where no trees grew - and they had so many questions - most of which were answered by the end of the story.

We used the book to talk about:

1. mussels and how they grow & live,

2. tides, what causes them and how much the water level can vary between high tide and low tide,

3. the climate in northern Canada

4. the Inuits,

5. emergencies - what happens initially to our bodies when we are afraid, and what we should try to do so that we can get out of our emergency safely, and

6. pointillism and the artist Seraut, and we made our own pointillism art masterpieces with Q-tips and paint.

I did search the Internet for actual photographs of what Eva might have seen, but I couldn't find a single one! I couldn't find other references to the Inuit walking under the ice either. I would have loved to have shown those to my children.

Wonderful - a genuine adventure for young girls.

This is one of the best books for young girls that I have come across. A young Inuit girl is sent under the ice at low tide to collect muscles for the family.. this time by herself. She gets distracted, the candles burn out leaving her in darkness just as she starts to hear the water returning. What an adventure. I buy this book as a gift whenever I need a present for a beginner reader girl.

In this ambitious work, Hunnicutt details the developmental history of half-tracks, examining its modifications and effectiveness. Products of a pre-war development program, half-track vehicles served in all theaters of operation from the first to the final days of WWII, and many models remained active long after the Korean War. The armored half-track was one of few vehicles available to equip the new divisions being formed just prior to WWII.

Part I traces the early development beginning with the slow half-track of WWI to the faster vehicles developed after the evaluation of the French Citroen-Kegresse P17 in 1931. These vehicles were unarmored half-track cars and trucks intended for use as prime movers and reconnaissance vehicles.

In 1938, the half-track suspension was installed on the M2A1 scout car, and the converted vehicle became the half-track personnel carrier T7. This was the first armored half-track, but tests showed that it was underpowered. Based upon the experience with the T7, a new vehicle was designed in 1939 and designated as the half-track scout car T14. Using the half-track suspension from the T7 and a more powerful engine, it became the prototype for all of the half-tracks produced during WWII.

In Part II, the development and production of half-tracks during WWII is described showing the many roles for which it was adapted. In addition to the original armored scout car, the basic chassis was adapted as a personnel carrier, mortar carrier, tank destroyer, self-propelled artillery, and other specialized applications. Some of these vehicles were temporary expedients, but others were so successful that they remained in use until long after WWII.

Part III briefly describes some half-track operations during WWII and Korea. However, it is not intended to be an operational history, but to illustrate the effectiveness of the half-track in active service. The characteristics of the various half-track vehicles and the weapons with which some of them were armed are tabulated in the data sheets in Part IV.

Richard Pearce Hunnicutt (1926-2011) enlisted in the 7th Infantry Division in 1944 and in 1945 was promoted to sergeant and awarded the Silver Star for his heroic actions. After WWII, Hunnicutt earned a Masters in engineering from Stanford University under the GI Bill. In addition to being one of the most respected metallurgists in California, Hunnicutt wrote the definitive 10-volume history of the development and employment of American armored vehicles. As a tank historian and leading expert in the field, Hunnicutt was one of the founders of the US Army Ordnance Museum at Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD and was a close friend and frequent contributor to the Patton Museum at Fort Knox, KY.

Halftrack, half there

This is the first of seven Hunnicutt books that I have purchased that I was not completely satisfied with. The usual detail, excellent photos and history of the development of the subject that we have come to expect from Hunnicutt are there, but there are two things that missed the mark:
In all of his other works, other vehicles have been included to trace the development, show parallel trends, experimental prototypes. There is virtually none of that here.
This is also a relatively short work for Hunnicutt. Coupled with its very narrow scope, I was left wanting to read more.
Still, if you are a half track nut, this would be THE book to own on the subject.

This is a Hunnicutt book with good text, excellent and numerous illustrations and decent paper and printing. This is the most thorough and largest book on American Half-tracks that I have vseen to date.

The Halftrack Bible

Outstanding history and description of the development of the WWII US Half-Track Vehicle. Hunnicut's research, descriptions, photos, drawings and history is the benchmark for all books of this type. Collectors and WWII fans will appreciate the attention to detail and the efforts that the author put into his work. As a half-Track collector and military historian, I would strongly recommend this fine work.
