Great Insight

As an actual "Master Graphics" art dealer, dealing Picasso, Miro', Chagall etc. I found the book to be a great insight. Managing artist-dealer realtionships is the hardest aspect of being a great dealer, and is what made Vollard so huge!
The previous reader, read this book for the wrong reasons. It's not a handbook, nor intended to be one, on establishing you own business as an artist. You will not find any 'hidden secrets'. If you are an art dealer and want to have an insight as to the mastery of Vollard's ability to manage both the artist and the client, this is your book. If your a 'wannabe' great artist, then this 'capatilistic' point of view will not serve you at all.

Whatever you may think of the writing style and content, this book is historic in its autobiographical account of one of the world's most important art dealers. I found it totally fascinating. It brought one of the foremost art historical times to life for me. Even if you are not much of an art aficionado, how could you not be intrigued by the interaction between these historic figures?

good stories hard to read

I found this book to be quiet interesting. Ambroise Vollard is an extremely important person in art history, and these are his own personal stories. They're very interesting, but I personally found them kind of hard to read and follow. Vollard by no means was a great writer and seems to be all over the place and either used very poor english or was poorly translated (my guess is the 2nd) If you're looking for some good stories though this is a nice read

About the Author
Oscar G. Brockett will always have an international reputation as a theatre historian. A Distinguished Scholar honoree of the American Society of Theatre Research, he received career achievement awards from both the Association for Theatre in Higher Education and the United States Institute for Theatre Technology. He was a recipient of the Robert Lewis Medal for Lifetime Achievement in Theatre Research. After receiving his Ph.D. from Stanford University, he taught at several major American universities and at the University of Bristol in England. He has also served as President of the American Theatre Association, Dean of the College of Fine Arts at the University of Texas, Editor of Theatre Journal, and on the editorial board of the "Asian Theatre Journal." He held the prestigious University of Texas Z.T. Scott Family Chair in Drama and was the Director of the Center for Dramatic and Performance Studies for several years. Dr. Brockett authored of many articles in leading journals and has written several books, including "History of the Theatre" and "The Essential Theatre." At the time of his passing, he was serving as a Distinguished Teaching Professor at the University of Texas at Austin, and the Dean of the Fellows of the American Theatre.

Robert J. Ball has ample experience as a successful teacher of Introduction to Theatre and Theatre Appreciation courses at a number of large and small universities, including Trinity University, the University of Texas, and Vanderbilt University. He is also a practicing actor and director with numerous professional credits in American regional theatres, as well as credits for national and international touring productions. Dr. Ball received his Ph.D. in theatre history and criticism from the University of Texas and is currently the Chair and Artistic Director of the Theatre Arts program at the University of the Incarnate Word.

What's to review?

If you have a Theater degree from any American college in the last decade, then you already own this book. This is the definitive text on Theater History. Brockett is the authority. No other comprehensive book on "general" theater history comes close. If you want the book that is on every theater historian's shelf, referenced in every Theater thesis or dissertation, and the text for every Theater History course in the nation, then order this.

The new edition is even better than previous one!

I bought the last edition of The Essential Theatre (7th) for a class. It was easy to read and covered just about everything one could hope for in an introductory text. Now I'm a graduate student studying theatre. I bought the new edition to review the material I had a few years ago and was surprised to find a number of exciting new features including greater use of the internet to expand on subjects covered in the text. This book was very good before but with so many new features and the same authoritative coverage it's a pure joy and "essential" reading for anyone who truly cares about the Theatre.

Bought this book for a college class. I have found it to be very interesting and inspiring. It has helped me understand a lot of the things we see around today. I suppose that nothing is new under the sun!!

Super helpful to spice it up.

For someone who really enjoys sex and sometimes wants to spice it up, this was a great read. As with all relationships, sometimes the sex can get a little boring, or basic, or you just get used to it after a while. But my partner and I read through this together and absolutely had to try some of these situations out. It came with some laughter, but that is part of what made it so fun. We’d never done any role playing before but what we came to find out was that some roles definitely worked for us and others… well not so much, but everything is definitely worth trying once (or more than once if you really like it). Then it’s possible to switch up the roles too! I think our favorite chapter was chapter eight. Going through this book was really eye opening for both my partner and I.

Really good ideas!

This book is very well written! It has a lot of ideas and fantasies that can help! I've thought of some and reenacted some myself, but this had quite a few that I never thought of and there's so much here that you'll never run out of things to do with your partner. When I first read the table of contents, I was a bit worried, especially when it said cheating and call girls/rent boys, but the book is all about consensual relationships with only you and your partner! It even has a list of props that you might be able to use throughout each scenario. It's definitely worth looking into if you want to find a little more spice for the bedroom life.

A fun way to enjoy the bedroom.

My fianc�e and I frequently engage in elaborate sexual role playing and decided to pick up this book to give us a few fresh ideas. A lot of the role plays in this book are simple and fun and allow plenty of room for creativity or switching roles. My only complaints would be that some of them seem samey, being the exact same scenario only with different characters and that there are frequent typos, although those are ignored easily enough.

About the Author
Craig Johnson has served in full-time ministry for more than two decades. He is currently the director of ministries at Lakewood Church, one of the largest and fastest-growing church in America, overseeing all pastoral ministries and staff, as well as serving as family ministries pastor. Previously, he served as co-chair for the Los Angeles Billy Graham Children's Crusade and as children's pastor at Faith Community Church in West Covina, California. Craig is the creator of many programming tools for children's ministry, including a new discipleship curriculum called Extreme Kids, launched at Lakewood Church in 2009. He and his wife, Samantha, have three children.
